The Story behind Chapter 3: Republic Day
HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY TO ALL MY DEAR READERS.
Today's special blog is dedicated to Dr B.R Ambedkar who framed the constitution on this very day.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar also known as Babasaheb Ambedkar who was an Indian jurist, politician, economist and social reformer was born on 14 April 1891. He is also known as the founding father of India because he had framed the Constitution of India and declared India to be a democratic country.
Upon India's independence on 15 August 1947, the new Congress-led government invited Ambedkar to serve as the nation's first Law Minister, which he accepted. On 29 August, he was appointed Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, and was appointed by the Assembly to write India's new Constitution
He was a constitutional expert and had studied the constitutions of about 50 countries. Members of the Indian Constituent Assembly also accepted it and various scholars also recognized it in one way or the other. Ambedkar was the chairman of the drafting committee of the constitution, whose responsibility was to submit a written draft of the constitution. There were a total of 7 members in this committee.
Drafting Committee was the most important committee of the Constituent Assembly. Ambedkar's biographer Christrophe Jaffrelot writes, the drafting committee was not only responsible for writing the initial text of the constitution, but was entrusted with the task of preparing the written text of the constitution on the basis of the paragraphs sent by various committees, to be presented before the Constituent Assembly.
He was the first and foremost leader of the depressed classes, and the struggle of the depressed classes for Human Rights and socio-political equality from the twenties to the fifties of the 20th century is woven round his name Being elected Chairman of the Drafting Committee, Dr. Ambedkar played a key role in viewing the structure of the government and the forms of the Constitution.
Finally on 26 January 1950 the Constitution was framed and was accepted by the Government. And so this day India celebrates Republic.
It is too hard to write about his life in one blog but in one line that Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s name will be written in gold letters in the history of India as a creator of social justice.
