The Story Behind Chapter 2: Chernobyl nuclear leak
The Story Behind Chapter 2: Chernobyl nuclear leak
BASED ON THE HORRIFICLY TRUE INCIDENT OF CHERNOBYL NUCLEAR LEAK
Saturday 26 April 1986
The Chernobyl Power Complex was a nuclear power plant lying to the north of Kiev in Ukraine. To The south of the plant there was a city called Pripyat with population of more than 50,000 people. In the radius of 30 km the population was about more than 1.20,000 people.
People say that negligence and carelessness was the only reason behind this disaster and it would not be wrong to say that because of the carelessness of one person thousands of people died. The person's name was Anatoly Dyatlov. That night they were preparing for a test and before doing any test it is mandatory to perform some strict hardcore protocols. Anatoly Dyatlov neglected all those protocols and shut down the reactor’s power-regulating system and its emergency safety systems, and they withdrew most of the control rods from its core while allowing the reactor to continue running at 7 percent power
Many mistakes like these led to the disaster and exactly at 1:23 the chain reaction went out of control and several explosions triggered a large fireball and blew off the heavy steel and concrete lid of reactor and released tons of radioactive material into the atmosphere several times more radioactivity than that created by the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
Many people gathered on a bridge in Pripyat to see what had happened. Unknowingly many people had already taken the radioactive material and were infected by radioactive sickness. People started dying due to acute radioactive sickness.
By 27 April hundreds of people were evacuated and around 1500 people were admitted to hospitals in Moscow. During the first twenty years after the accident, approximately 5,000 cases of thyroid cancer were registered in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus among those who were younger than eighteen at the time of the explosion.
It is said that even today- 37 years after the nuclear leak at the ruins of the plant the radioactive material is still actively releasing. If you stand in the basement for at least 30 mins you will get instant death. In Pripyat even after many years of that disaster there are zero inhabitants. If you search in Google the population of Pripyat the result will come as zero.
I hope that the people who died rest in peace and I also hope that those people who are still suffering from thyroid cancer get a better life.
