The Story Behind Chapter 1 Bhopal Gas Tragedy

The Story Behind Chapter 1 Bhopal Gas Tragedy

THIS BLOG IS BASED ON EXCRUCIATINGLY HORRIBLE INCIDENT OF BHOPAL GAS TRAGEDY

  December 2 1984.

On this night many people went to sleep , hoping to wake up the next morning and go to their work but most of the people slept at night but woke up in heaven. Yes you guessed it right..it is the Bhopal Gas Tragedy which is one of the most horrific incidents till date.

But how did this disaster happen. In 1979 a UCIL factory was built in Bhopal to provide a pesticide named MIC (methyl isocyanate). This is was one of the biggest UCIL plant in India ever made. People of Bhopal were proud of it but nobody knew that in the future that plant of which they were proud of will be the reason of thousands of deaths.

Lets come back to 1984. By November 1984 many of the safety systems started malfunctioning. On December 2 it is said that water entered the E610 tank through the side pipe and as we know that MIC reacts violently with water. In a few moments the MIC started leaking slowly. Two officers felt exposure to MIC but they thought that it is their misconception. In a few minutes the reaction in E610 became extremely critical. And then suddenly the tank exploded like a bomb.

About 40 metric tons of MIC escaped into the atmosphere in a few minutes. A UCIL employee triggered the alarm as the concentration of MIC was very tough to tolerate. But it was too late the gas had diluted in the air and had travelled about 30km in distance.

It had reached the city are and the initial effects were extreme coughing, severe eye irritation and a feeling of suffocation. The gas would literally burn the respiratory system. People started to panic. Many even tried to go the hospital but died on there way. People could see see others dyeing in front of there eyes. Dead bodies were laid all over the roads and lakes. The situation was becoming worse. People were panicking a lot. By morning thousands of people had died and many survived too.

The government said that the people who died were lucky because the people who survived this tragedy will face greater problems. This is true because many people and their next generation suffered because of this tragedy. This cancer is hereditary and so the people who survived, their upcoming generations will naturally get affected by this cancer.

This is the most horrible thing a person can ever imagine. This is the biggest gas leak disaster which has ever took place.

I hope that the people who lost their lives find eternal peace in heaven and I also hope that the people who survived the tragedy and their upcoming generations get a better life.
